Summer Coach Trips

Age Concern Ayr SCIO run coach day trips to areas of interest and natural beauty each Summer.  These trips have become a firm favourite with our elderly customers over the years and are eagerly anticipated.

They provide a means of getting out of the house to indulge in some social interaction and a chance to sit back, relax as they are transported by coach as they engage with friends and have a good old blether.

Then at a location, planned in advance of course, they alight for an afternoon lunch before making their way to perhaps a visitor centre and  then maybe a gentle stroll along the banks of a loch or head indoors for a spot of souvenir hunting if the (notorious) Scottish Summer weather is inclement.

As 2020 has shown it is more important than ever to reduce the feeling of isolation all too frequently experienced by our elderly community and Age Concern Ayr SCIO is pleased to be able to offer trips such as these as part of its self betterment and enablement portofolio

Here are a few examples of some of the trips we have organised over the years:

  • Waverly Steam Paddle Steamer
  • New Lanark Visitor Centre
  • The island of Arran
  • Luss village (on banks of Loch Lomond)
  • Loch Lomond Shores
  • The town of Helensburgh  (Charles Rennie MacIntosh’s house nearby)
  • Nardinis Restaurant, Largs (for afternoon fish tea – the ‘wee’ day trip)
  • The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel (Still to be done: postponed in 2020, due to covid)

*Our day trips are offered to senior citizens in South Ayrshire on a first-come-first-served basis.   The cost is always subsidised by us and is proportionate.  There is no pre-booking available and we advertise them on our social media pages and in our shop near to the trip date itself.
